Some people I love are coming in on the late boat; I got home from work inspired to bake thanks to my #lauradoesbakeoff project; my house is finally full of summer vegetable bounty. The result: a platter of homemade dips and crackers awaiting some lovely and possibly hungry humans. The crackers fulfill the signature challenge from biscuit week, season 3. Rich butter crackers with cheese and seeds (perfection), buckwheat sesame crackers (tasty, but underbaked). Wet windy days got it feeling mo and more like autumn lately 🍃🌾🍂🍁 ——— Pearl barley is the grain in the soup there. I usually ladle it in just before the stock gets poured over.. helps suck up all the juices of whatever’s been sweating in the pot ——— Cooking for my people is one of the simplest acts of service + greatest joys I’ve known. Raspberry nectarine crisp for the WIN! I like using tart nectarines because they release less water than peaches. Add 1/4 or more sugar to the fruit (I used 5 nectarines and a basket of raspberries.) in a separate bowl, with your fingers, crumble together 1/3 cup sugar, 1 stick salted butter, 1 cup flour. Put the crumble in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. Then cover the fruit with the crumble and put in a 400 degree F for 30 to 40 minutes til the top is golden brown and fruit is just bubbling. Then put some whipped cream on top. #feedyourpeople #fruitheaven

Today a dear friend told me about how the Ancestors literally slapped her down after she said she was afraid of stepping into her warrior space. I laughed and I sympathized. The Ancestors have been loud. So loud that I can't deny it. I used to brand myself a "skeptical" witch. It was a way to protect myself from the very real dangers of magic while keeping myself small and in this smallness safe. A few years ago my Spiritual Mama took me on a trip and I came back like "Oh Shit! It's all real! It's all real! Holy fuck what?!?!" I was never the same. My work was never the same. It spilt me in two and I had to figure out who I was going to be now that I knew it was all real Now that I know I'm real Now that I know I'll never be small or "safe" I still struggling with this But when I can remember my Ancestors and my Ancestor Court I am grounded into something bigger than me and I actually do feel safe in this very dangerous world. We talk often now, more lately since the Ancestor work with Luna Pantera. They normally get me good just as I am waking or falling asleep. I've begun to look forward to hearing their voices in my heart and body as I'm entering or exiting the waking world. They are telling me that we are out of time. Lines are drawn Blood is in the water What happens here is happening on every plane and it's all connected and all affected by each other. They don't have time for any ish Not even from me their descendant Especially from me. And that's okay because what used to terrify me and feel like a burden is now received with love and joy. I know I am not alone. A few days ago as I opened my eyes they whispered sweetly Feed us so that we have the strength to love you...and rip out the throats of your enemies P.s. I also made some crackers for a family visit... They don't look that pretty but were very yummy... and soooooo easy to make... Basically one cup of integral flower + two cups of grains (sunflower, pumpkin, chia, hemp... whatever you have) + some water... form and spread the dough, then in the oven for about half an hour... and oh yes, I also added gomasio and various herbs before cooking... Really fell in love with Agricola after playing it. Didn’t matter how long it took to play, it was so much fun. I really loved using the cards and being able to have different options each game is exciting. We didn’t draft this game for time and teaching purposes but I can see how that would add even more enjoyment as you try and set yourself up from round to round. We didn’t find the feeding your workers that hindering, none of us ever took a begging token. I look forward to trying out some more Uwe games in the future!

Collected wild fennel pollen for tomorrow’s pig roast. We baked it in the oven at a very low temp, then pulled it off the stems into a beautiful pile of golden dust. It will go into the herbed mixture for our giant porchetta. I will share the whole process tomorrow! #feedyourpeople #wildfennelpollen #foragedfood

THINK: Who do you cook for? Maybe a family. Maybe just yourself. Maybe a spouse, partner or roommates. 📍 it’s been such a joy to Cook with and eat with and just share life with this group (& others not in the photo). You may cook for others but you also cook for you. And a little progress not perfection can go a long way. Today, we went with frittatas and baked oatmeal. Green smoothies for the first time for some as an idea to get veggies in first thing in the morning. I love the spirits of these ladies here! How they are willing to show up and cook that we all teach each other something. They’ve made my life richer for sure! Heat your oven as high as it will go (ours was 512 degrees) Blanch the beans, mix with Cherry tomatoes, Kalamata olives, olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
