The small village of Copsa Mare in Romania’s Transylvania region is one of the few remaining of the Saxon community. The Saxons first arrived in Transylvania in the 12th Century and became known as industrious, skilled craftspeople and smallholder farmers. They had their own language and culture, and thrived here for centuries. However, over the past few decades the community has all but vanished from the region. Recently, local community efforts have been made to restore traditional Saxon villages and preserve their heritage. Today there are a handful of fairytale looking cottages offering guests unique accommodation and experiences set along a backdrop of seemingly endless rolling hills. ☝️ Visit the link in our bio to learn more about visiting these ancient rural towns.
