Mt Ida. What a beauty!
This much-photographed gem is popular for a reason. Just look at her!
I cannot recommend the paddle+hiking trip highly enough. It's one of the trips we've been looking forward to it for quite a while and we were not disappointed.
Our trip was delayed somewhat by strong North-westerlies on Saturday, but with the winds forecasted to settle in the afternoon, we bided our time and resigned ourselves to an easy weekend- Just the one Abel.
With plenty of time to spare on Saturday afternoon (but not quite enough to comfortably get up and down Ida before dark) we side-tripped out to Echo Point, spent a fair bit of time admiring Orthys from the water (and concluding that our idea of bashing up the Eastern slope on the Sunday was not a good one), set up camp on the beach below Ida, chatted to our neighbours (a young family of four doing the same trip) went for a swim and enjoyed a leisurely meal and an early night.
At an equally relaxed pace on Sunday we made our way up Ida and spent a long time on the summit, soaking up the incredible views in every direction, musing and prospecting about future adventures. On the way down we found cairns and a pad which made initial progress much faster. We had a few light showers, adding to the ambience in the wet forest areas and again on the shoreline, packed up camp, and enjoyed tail-winds all the way back to the lodge.
Sometimes easy weekends are real nice.
