ZW FILTERED WATER | so many of you guys had questions about the charcoal stick from the fridge photo i posted the other day, so i wanted to do a whole post all about it 💧charcoal sticks are an amazing way to filter your water and are a much better option than wasteful / expensive brita filters or bottled water. here’s some quick info about binchotan charcoal and how these sticks work:
+ charcoal has been used in japan for centuries to naturally purify water. it absorbs chlorine, VOCs, and other weird things, plus makes your water taste really good!
+ each 6 in. stick is sufficient to filter 2 liters of water in about 3 hrs.
+ we paid $20 for a set of 3 sticks that will last approx. 3 months each. however, i’ve found they last much much longer where i live, probably due to the quality of water.
+ when your water starts tasting more like tap water again, just boil the stick for 10 minutes and allow to dry. this reactivates the charcoal’s absorptive properties
+ at the end of its life, you can compost the charcoal, stick it directly in soil to break down, or even use it to deodorize your fridge / closet!
+ you can buy smaller size sticks specifically for reusable water bottles! or break larger ones into smaller pieces to suit the size of your water vessel. we thrifted two half gallon glass milk jugs and one quart size milk bottle to keep our water in - this way, there’s always a fresh + cold supply ready. the bottle you see in the picture is kept on my nightstand so our lazy behinds don’t have to schlep to the fridge at night.
+ add a sprig of mint to be fancy as hell 😎
do you already use these burnt sticks to make your water taste like dream fluid? 😩 (lol i know how that sounds and no i will not take it back). hit me up with any other questions!!
